Fall Market: Top Trends and Tips for a Successful Trip
Heading to Magic or Dallas Market soon? If you are still filling Fall orders, here's a quick refresh on what's catching our eye on the trend front, plus a few reminders to make sure you're walking the floor with a plan, not just a wish list.
What's Trending This Fall
It's all in the details this season: Fringe, lace trims, studs and beading, exposed zippers, and scarves and long sashes are showing up everywhere. These finishing touches turn a basic piece into a statement.
Prints are back in a big way: This isn't a season for playing it safe, think mixing and layering patterns rather than sticking to one safe print.
Silhouettes are getting bigger: Volume and layering are defining the shape of the season, with bolder proportions. Think exaggerated sleeves, funnel necks and peplums.
Rich color palettes: Brown, navy, olive, nutmeg, and red adding warmth. A pop of lime green bringing unexpected contrast.
The denim evolution: Mid- rise fits are gaining traction, and the barrel jean continues.
Outerwear is the star. This is the piece worth investing in. All types of jackets from bombers, double-breasted cropped jackets, and fur detailing.
Our Top 3 Market Prep Tips
Know your numbers. Pull your sales data by store, category, and vendor so you're walking in with all the facts. If the numbers don't match up with who you thought your customer was, that's worth paying attention to.
Plan your open-to-buy by category. Each classification should carry its own weight. Put more dollars behind what's proven itself and go in cautious on the categories that have been soft. Timing matters too, line up bigger deliveries with your known peak selling weeks to maximize sales opportunity and protect cash flow.
Show up organized. A prioritized appointment schedule, a running list of what you are hunting for, and notes on any vendor issues will make the trip far more productive.
Leave time and money open for newness. Market is the time to discover new vendors and/or categories. Build meeting new people into your schedule and hold back a little budget so you can act on what you find.
